Prediabetes means that your blood sugars are higher than usual, but not high enough for you to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It also means that you are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. You are unlikely to be experiencing any symptoms with prediabetes.

 

Prediabetes is also sometimes called borderline diabetes. Higher than normal blood sugars can be detected via blood tests.

By making changes to diet, increasing physical activity and losing weight, about half of type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented or brought in to remission. 

 

Now is a great time to start making healthy changes to your lifestyle to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. Sarah can support you in making these changes.

There’s no one special diet for all people at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Everyone is individual, so there isn’t a one size fits all way of eating for everyone. But, the food and drink we have in our overall diet is linked to our risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

 All of these ways of eating have been linked with a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes:

 

  • Mediterranean diet

  • Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet

  • vegetarian and vegan diets

  • the Nordic diet

  • reducing the amount of carbohydrates

​

Working with the dietitian will help you to identify any changes in lifestyle, diet and physical activity you can not only achieve but also enjoy and stick to in the long term.

At your consultation, Sarah will take time to thoroughly understand your medical history and will assess your diet. She will work with you to find the best pathway to instigate the remission of your diabetes.

Initial 1 hour consultation: £120

This includes (as appropriate for the client): assessment of pre appointment questionnaire and food diary; 1 hour consultation; individualised Nutrition Plan/written information; any other useful information e.g. recommendations for useful apps, websites, books

​

Follow up appointments: £60

Follow up appointments last approximately 45 minutes

 

There are no unexpected extra costs. If I recommend a supplement I will suggest a number of choices, as I do not sell or promote any particular brand or product.
